Spokane VegFest Returns for Sixth Year

The sixth annual Spokane VegFest: Healthy Living Expo & Music Festival takes place July 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Spokane Community College. “Spokane VegFest promotes ways to easily reduce our impact on the planet and live more healthful lives,” says Joshua Awesome, VegFest organizer and co-founder of Inland Northwest Vegans.

The event features health and nutrition experts including Dr. Yami from Yakima and Dr. Pamela from Nelson, BC, a vegan body builder, a vegan rap artist, along with renowned chefs in the cooking demonstration area. “In addition, we’ll have animal and eco-friendly exhibitors, presentations, a music festival, cooking demonstrations, food trucks, non-profit organizations, an outdoor market, massage therapy and more,” shares Awesome.

According to the Inland Northwest Vegans (INVeg) website, the non-profit organization was started in 2013 with a mission, “to unite in compassion and educate about the ethical, environmental, economic and health benefits of a plant-based diet.” The members of INVeg are passionate about creating events and resources for people in the Inland Northwest to connect with and build up the plant-powered community.

“The vegan community has been growing strong over the past six years. All of our grocery stores in Spokane have a full selection of plant-based foods such as cheese, meats and dairy alternatives. It has never been easier,” affirms Awesome. “When we started, we had only a couple of restaurants on our restaurant guide, now there are more than 40. There are a half dozen Facebook groups each dedicated to a specific topic such as general vegan information, vegan meetups, animal rights and health.”

“If you want to learn more about how you can make a lighter impact on our planet or are wanting to heal from one of the common diseases of affluence such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease then I highly recommend coming to VegFest,” adds Awesome.
