Time to Bloom
I hope you will go out and let stories, that is life, happen to you, and that you will work with these stories...water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom, till you yourself burst into bloom.
~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PhD, from the book, Women Who Run With the Wolves
Happy Spring, my Friends!
I’m reading the book, Women Who Run With the Wolves and this quote reminded me that we are each here on this beautiful planet to do more than exist, to do more than survive. We are here to bloom. Most of us have had the experience of ‘bursting’ into bloom at several points in our lives—both literally and figuratively—This is when the stories surrounding us are filled with highs and lows, intense emotions, independence, love, fear, heartbreak and a strong yearning from the soul for more. Oh, and mistakes. Lots and lots of fabulous (and not so fabulous) mistakes. And while these stories and mistakes are not always pleasant or easy, they are always necessary because they are leading us to what is next—our continual unfoldment.
Have you ever had the experience of something happening to you 20 or 30 years ago and all of the sudden it reconnects to your here and now present moment? An event or relationship or “mistake” —whatever it was, it returns to you. Why? Because you’re not done! The story is not over and there’s more to experience and remember about who you are and what you have come here to be. Our lives are not compartmentalized, unrelated experiences that happened to us for no apparent reason. They are complex, interconnected and guided experiences that happen for us and our ultimate unfolding. This is how we bloom.
That’s where I am right now. Not quite ‘bursting’ into bloom, but definitely unfolding. Watering these stories around me with laughter and tears, joy and pain—trusting that all is in divine order and that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be. And so are you.
So, wherever you are as you read these pages, I want you to feel deep in your heart the following words of truth: You are perfect exactly as you are. There is nothing you need to do to be more lovable or worthy of love. You are a divine expression of life itself. You are exactly where you need to be, and your story continues to unfold. You are here to bloom.
I want to leave you with a final quote from Women Who Run With the Wolves:
Though fairy tales end after ten pages, our lives do not. We are multi-volume sets. In our lives, even though one episode amounts to a crash and burn, there is always another episode awaiting us and then another. There are always more opportunities to get it right, to fashion our lives in the ways we deserve to have them. Don’t waste your time hating a failure. Failure is a greater teacher than success.
Yours in love, laughter, blood and tears,
