Who We Truly Are

Sep 01, 2021 12:08PM ● By Amber Mc Kenzie
“When you come from your memory, you create one kind of experience. When you come from your intention, you create another kind of experience altogether. Always, with your choices, you are answering a single question: Who am I? Every act is an act of self-definition

~ Neale Donald Walsch

I like this quote. It reminds me that each and every day, we have choices to make—hundreds of them! And while many of these choices will be made out of our past muscle memory responses based on the way we’ve always done things, or the way our family did things, or how our society expects us to do things—we always have the opportunity to choose another way.

We can opt for a way that reflects the truth of who we are beyond our societal, religious or familial programming. A way that is in alignment with the truth of our existence and the truth of who we are at the core of our being.

So, this begs the question—who is that? I’m still figuring it out; yet, I’ve come to understand very clearly who I am not. I am not the fear or the anger or the turmoil that I oftentimes feel when I’m triggered by something happening ‘out there.’ I am not the sadness or grief that overwhelms me when I miss my mom or my friends or my love. I am not those false beliefs I took on as a child of being unworthy or not good enough. No, those are things I experience—but they are not who I am.

Who I am, and who you are, is so much bigger and more expansive than what we’ve been taught and told is true. Who we are goes beyond the limits of the body and mind and expands out into the field of infinite possibility, where imagination and mystical experience and divine expression live. This is as much a part of our inheritance as anything else. So, who am I? And who are you? We are mystical, magical, divine expressions of God living this sometimes messy, sometimes wonderful human experience. Each and every day we’re alive on this planet we get to see what happens next. So, go ahead and grab that popcorn and let’s do this!

Now that you’ve got your popcorn and I have your rapt attention, let’s talk about September. Fall is pretty much here, school is starting, things are kind of going back to normal, only not really. It’s definitely an interesting time of year. Fortunately, this month’s issue has some amazing articles, events and information for you to check out and take action on, including natural approaches to pain relief, art therapy, trauma-informed yoga and more! You will also want to check out this month’s news briefs, which include health-education workshops, the monthly Holistic Chamber of Commerce networking meeting, discount pricing on immune-boosting products at Infused Wellness, a free consultation with Joshua Tree Physical Therapy, self-care massage, and so much more!

So, sit back, relax, maybe meditate a little, and enjoy all September’s issue has to offer.

Oh, and don’t forget – you are a magical, mystical being and I love you for it!
